Basic Training: How to Fishtail Braid

Basic Training: How to Fishtail Braid

The fishtail braid looks intimidating—it took me years to get the courage to try it—but in all honesty, it’s one of the easiest braids out there. With two sections of hair opposed to three, there’s much less juggling between the pieces. Follow our simple step-by-step to master the style.

Step 1: Pulling hair to the side of the head, separate it into two sections.

Step 2: Take a piece of hair from the right section (the farther the piece is to the right, the better). Bring the piece to the left section.

Step 3: Now take a piece of hair from the left section, bringing it over to the right section.

Step 4: Continue to do this as you move down the braid. Make sure to pull the braid tightly to keep the shape.

Step 5: Secure the end of the braid with an elastic.
